Prized Assets That Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Anil Ambani May Lose In Dues

Weeks after India's criminal enforcement bureau announced a second auction of the prized personal possessions of fugitive jeweler Nirav Modi including his favorite watch and his Rolls Royce Ghost, the United Kingdom High Court recently asked Anil Ambani to deposit $100 million of his personal wealth to partially pay back debt due to a trio of Chinese banks. The rush to collect on the assets includes a swoop on Vijay Mallya's French island mansion and yacht by Qatar National Bank. Trouble mounts for Chidambarams, Madras HC turns down Karti and wife's plea

The family of former Union minister P Chidambaram seems to be facing bad luck with the judiciary. After the Delhi high court quashed P Chidamabaram's anticipatory bails in INX Media case, his son and daughter-in-law had to face rejection in Madras high court. Madras high court on Wednesday turned down Karti Chidambaram's plea seeking an interim stay on an income tax case before the special court for MPs and MLAs. The metropolitan magistrate court transferred the case from the economic offence court to the special court which hears the cases of MLA/MPs after he became MP. Karti Chidambaram approached the Madras high court, stating that he was not an MP during the time the alleged crime happened. The Deputy Director of Income Tax Investigation, Chennai, had filed a complaint on September 12 last year against the petitioners before the ACMM (Economic Offences) for alleged offences under the Income Tax Act and summons were issued on various dates and the case is at the trial stage. The Madras HC, which heard the case, refused to turn down the order of the lower court and has sent a notice to the registrar of economic offence court, the income tax department and the Tamil Nadu government and has sought an explanation.........Read more
